Welcome to Parametric Insurer
Conference & Awards 2024
Parametric risk transfer is proving valuable for a wider range of exposures than ever before. Historically for niche weather and nat cat risks, more organisations, communities and insurers are turning to parametric covers to address complex, emerging and climate-driven risks that are otherwise difficult to insure. Just this year, parametric payouts made within a month of Hurricane Beryl helped vulnerable farmers, large corporations and national governments alike recover from its impacts. Many international travellers were automatically compensated in July after global outages disrupted their flights, with no need to make a claim. New programs have been placed to support investment in renewable energy, manage delays in global supply chains and reinsure severe convective storm risks. Following the September launch of the new Parametric Insurer publication covering key developments in index-based and other forms of alternative risk transfer with informed analysis, the Parametric Insurer Conference and Awards 2024 will bring together the fast-growing global parametric and alternative risk transfer market. Join us on 30 October in London for knowledge-sharing on how alternative solutions can address pressing global risks, networking with the brightest minds and key players in the market and celebration of its top talent and initiatives. The format will feature a morning conference with a keynote address and panel discussions. We’ll discuss the opportunities and challenges for parametric and alternative risk transfer, noting achievements in 2024 and looking ahead to 2025. Guests will return in the evening for a reception and dinner-style awards ceremony, creating an ideal setting for networking with senior peers from the UK and overseas. We’ll be recognising outstanding contributions and raising a toast to the achievements that continue to shape this dynamic part of the global (re)insurance market.

Panel discussions
Building resilience to the most pressing threats
From wildfires to floods, traditional insurance is struggling to tackle some of the world’s biggest natural threats while newer risks, such as systemic cyber, loom large. Many of those affected by large-scale disasters have always been uninsured or underinsured, while insurers are also pulling back from risks that they previously covered. This panel will examine how parametric and alternative risk transfer solutions are helping the public and private sectors respond to the most severe catastrophes, examples of protection gaps that can and should be closed, how new capacity can be unlocked to cover changing threats, and more.

Managing volatility in an uncertain world
Businesses are facing ever more sources of disruption to their operations and income. From construction delays caused by shorter working hours in a heatwave to low river levels blocking key supply routes alongside long-established parametric use cases in agriculture and energy, non-catastrophic events are making revenues more uncertain and creating extra costs. This panel will consider the emerging weather risks that could interrupt business operations, what sectors are already deploying parametric solutions to smooth out volatility, how alternative risk transfer can derisk projects to support financing, and more.
